Driving Miss Daisy

When a woman is pregnant, her body releases hormones that dilate her blood vessels, increasing blood flow to the baby…and decreasing blood flow to other important places, like the brain.  As it turns out, Kristen’s body is especially susceptible to this particular hormone, and now that she is 32 weeks pregnant and things keep getting more crowded, she’s feeling the effects of this sensitivity.

The position that causes the most trouble for her is sitting upright.  If she stays in the same sitting position for an extended period of time (say, while driving), she will begin to feel hot, woozy, and could faint.  The doctor says fainting while driving is bad.

So, for the remainder of the pregnancy, Kristen won’t be driving.  We’re getting creative now to figure out how to manage her 40-mile commute, which is a little tricky as you can imagine.  More than anything else, this is a huge inconvenience for Kristen.

The best news of all is that Kristen and the baby are in perfect health and there’s nothing to be concerned about.  Kristen just needs a few dedicated chauffeurs for the next several weeks.

  1. Oh boy… that sure sounds exciting!!! You better get creative and get all your friends to pitch in!

  2. how fun!! be careful … early leave? =)

  3. It’s a well kept secret that having and raising children kills brain cells. The good news is that when they go off to college the brain cells seem to regenerate. Love you both!
